Customer Reviews:

I’ve always been a fan of Travels in Europe on tv & this book follows the same pattern of excellence. As usual, Rick Steve gets below superficial travel glibness & shows how to get the most of time & money to have a real experience of another part of the world. When I finally get to Paris (or anywhere else), I don’t need to see it out of a bus window in passing. I need to stay in an interesting place, walk out & meet the people, absorb the culture, learn about the history, see the architecture, experience the neighborhoods as well as the typical tourist must-sees, stop in at pubs & cafes, & not see the sights but breathe them, feel them, experience them & get to know the people. & I need to know how to be safe, practical, & appropriate while I’m at it. The book addresses all those issues & more. I need to come away feeling like I moved in & lived there for a little while. I don’t need to pass through. This book makes me feel like that is possible. If Paris ever happens for me, I’ll be using this book to make my plans & taking it with me to use as a guide. & then I’ll write a new review here on Amazon to confirm how well it worked for me!

Rick Steves is a real-live “regular” traveler, who understands that most of us don’t stay at the Ritz Carlton, don’t eat at 3-star Michelin restaurants, & that they crave authentic travel experiences. His guidebooks are updated every year, & they are meant to be used & tossed. Try tearing out the pages you need for a museum or site, instead of taking the entire book–it’s liberating. You can also download free podcasts that will give you Paris tours! The advice is practical & affordable–with one guidebook, you will have the best possible travel experience.

This book contains ALL the information you need to plan a trip to Paris, including information you didn’t know you needed. Rick Steves’ touring plans & self-guided walks help you figure out how to get the most out of a short visit to Paris. His descriptions of each major sight help you make informed decisions about what to see & what to skip. The research collected in this book is well organized & would have taken me months to do on my own. Unlike plenty of travel guides, the book does not waste a lot of space on hotels & restaurants. it is a book you will need to carryover with you as you tour Paris.

This was the best travel book ever! The notes & maps made us feel instantly comfortable in a city that they had never been to. His tips for restaurants, museums & side trips etc. were invaluable. It’s like the American Express commercial says, “Don’t leave home without it!” I will be sure to include a Rick Steve travel guide on my next journey.

This book is wonderful, for first timers. Rick Steves even provides mp3 tours that you can download onto your mp3 player & use in the Louvre, historic Paris, Orsay, & Versailles. Provides the history behind the sites. Also provides great money saving tips, like which rail lines to take to avoid the pricey cabs. Best travel guide out there, I wish they would do the US as well.
