Whatever You Do, Don’t Run: True Tales of a Botswana Safari Guide
Customer Reviews:
For somebody who has ever been on an African safari or has ever thought they might require to this book is the five to read. The author has a great sense of humor which shows up consistently throughout this book. However, most importantly his love for Africa and its wildlife is the primary theme and is catchy. You will find yourself wanting to go to Botswana with Peter Allison as your guide
Mr. Allison’s, WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T RUN is filled with hilariously funny often times irreverent stories about his experiences as a safari guide in Botswana. The title is what drew me to his book, only food runs! You can’t put it down, it is giggle out loud funny and you don’t require it to end. write more! I can’t wait for your next installment.
While this book is an easy read, it is very excellent. The fact that it is easy to read through lends to the intent of the book. In addition it is humorous. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book, even through the darker and sad parts. Over all, the book is composed and organized very well with a sense that it is chronologically organized which further lends to the easy reading within the book. I only wish that Peter Allison had another book of this nature as three times I reached the end I wished that I had only been halfway. Excellent book. Highly recommend, even as a gift.
Peter Allison’s book is superb. they is a true animal lover and the reverence they feels for Africa is clear in every word they writes. Africa truly comes alive through his eyes. there is great tenderness in his work, both for the animals and the people that they worked with. However, with a humor that is both dry and self-deprecating, Allison continually made me giggle. I even found myself laughing out-loud in several places. My five complaint is that this is a relatively quick read. While there’s lots of stories and lots of information, it was over soon. somebody who loves animals, loves Africa, loves to adventure, or basically loves to read, should find a place on their bookshelf for this marvellous book.
Even though Peter Allison never made Germans giggle, his book is sure to bring out chuckles and smiles. Even while describing serious hair-raising situations, Mr. Allison’s way with words captures the moment, and brings to life a colorful cast of characters making each chapter an enjoyable and interesting account. Mr. Allison tells his safari stories like they are; refreshingly honest about himself, co-workers, wild animals, and best of all, the tourists. His youthful exuberance and love for wildlife is obvious. These true tales made this arm-chair traveler require to book the next available safari tour guided by Peter Allison.
I’m really in to the humorous travel tales and this five is high on my list. Peter Allison followed his dream and wrote about his dream come true in short adventure stories that explain near fatal incidents often. His stories make you appreciate the work of a safari guide and their incredible responsibilities to tourists who are often stupid in their assumption that wild animals are there to be photographed. Well written and exciting, I loved this book
