| Customer Reviews: Great resource November 15, 2009 GlowingParis (Southeastern, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the most fun guidebooks I've read. The writing is clear and uniquely informative. I enjoyed the guide's generally conversational tone and found it added a wonderful sense of warmth and intimacy that's often lacking similar books. Colorful vignettes abound throughout the book, detailing South Carolina's historic, pop, and counter culture. One of the most interesting sections of the book is "People and Culture" with concise and insightful overviews of topics ranging from manners to the South's gun culture.
In short, it's a great read, even if you never visit South Carolina.
Loads of Great Info! November 14, 2009 Patrick E. Rodgers (Savannah, GA) I thought I knew a thing or two about South Carolina, until someone gave me a copy of Jim Morekis' South Carolina Handbook, now I'm reconsidering. Wow. Whether you've been to the Palmetto State before, or you're going there for the first time, this book provides the most comprehensive guide on the state I've been able to find. From the string of beautiful coastal state park islands to horse country further west, I feel like there's really nothing missing here - historical landmarks to cultural factoids. As I drove from Charleston to Beaufort recently, I found several interesting places I never knew about, like Luther's, a great little steakhouse in downtown Beaufort. All in all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who's planning on travelling to or through South Carolina.
