Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
With its azure skies, blue seas, lush tropical foliage, and volcanic formations, the Hawaiian islands truly are a visual celebration—and this volume, featuring awe-inspiring photos by Elan Penn, honors its magnificence. But there’s more to America’s 50th state than amazing landscapes: Award-winning author Ellie Crowe is a superb tour guide to the individual islands, with their state parks, museums of native art, temples, ranches, farms, and gardens. Of course, there’s a visit to the
USS Arizona Memorial; an introduction to the fierce chiefs and feather gods, monarchs and missionaries who influenced the culture; a journey to the Moloka’i sea cliffs; a trip to Volcanoes National Park; and a presentation of contemporary, sophisticated Hawaii. A foreword by leading Hawaiian scholar Rubellite Kawena Kinney Johnson begins the journey.

We have this book on our coffee table and everyone always comments on how beautiful it is. The photos are amazing- bright and clear, and take you back to vacation days in Hawaii...aaaah. And I've learned a lot about Hawaii from the history and commentary alongside the photos- Hawaiian history is really fascinating.

5 out of 5 stars Book: Hawaii   February 8, 2010

I purchased this book for a Christmas gift for my son and his wife as they are planning their 25th wedding anniversary trip to HI for fall. My son lived in HI in the 80's doing mission work and he is taking her for the first time. This book will be a great help for her to decide what she really wants to see. It was in great condition.
